The Lincoln Arts Council is excited to announce the funding of eight inspiring projects that will enrich our community in 2012. Funding for the 2012 LAC Project Grants is provided by the Ken Good Community Beautification Endowment and the Lincoln Foundation Community Arts Endowment Fund.
Angels Theatre Company
Project Summary: to assist with the costs of the Angels and Caregivers project, including the production of two plays; Marvin's Room and Daytrips. A "story collector" will invite individuals to share their personal caregiving stories at each of the performances in March of 2012.
Flatwater Shakespeare Company
Project Summary: to support the production of Angels in America, Part 2: Perestroika, the award-winning drama by Tony Kushner that explores the gay experience in America during the first decade of the AIDS epidemic.
Lied Center for Performing Arts
Project Summary: to assist with the funding of teaching artists working with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students and their teachers who will be attending Locomotion, a production of Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences. Poetry writing will be the focus of the workshops and student activities happening in March 2012.
Lincoln Municipal Band
Project Summary: to support seven free outdoor concerts in Antelope Park in July and August of 2012. A tradition for more than 100 years, the concerts entertain thousands of people of all ages and from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Lincoln Music Teachers Association
Project Summary: to support a Music Outreach Program for school age students interested in private lessons in singing or playing an instrument. The program provides scholarships based on financial need.
Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra
Project Summary: to support Young People's Concerts, which give more than 4,000 4th grade students the opportunity to see and hear an orchestra. A Teacher's Advisory Committee creates lesson plans with a variety of interactive components that engage students.
Nebraska Chamber Orchestra
Project Summary: to support "Music in Your Space," a project that places musicians in 4th grade classrooms to guide students through a collective decision-making exercise using chamber music as the vehicle.
Sheldon Art Association
Project Summary: to support Art in Society, an education program for high school students, created with the goal of increasing museum access and arts education. Students learn to speak about art, develop critical thinking skills, and learn art-making skills.
This year's submissions were very competitive! We were especially impressed at the quality of the project grant proposals. Hats off to the 2012 LAC Project Grant Award winners!
