2011 Nebraska Book Festival

The May 21, 2011 Nebraska Book Festival will include a variety of literary activities:

  • Keynote Panel — Local Wonders: From Book to Musical Theatre Production — The keynote panel, comprised of Ted Kooser, Virginia Smith, and Paul Amandes, will highlight Nebraska’s 2011 One Book One Nebraska selection, Local Wonders: Seasons in the Bohemian Alps, with a focus on how this rich non-fiction description of the place Kooser calls home in the rolling hills of southeastern Nebraska has evolved into a musical theatre production.
  • Readings by Nebraska Writers — A selection of Nebraska writers will read from their 2010-published work in a celebration of the contemporary writing talent of our state. Participants will be engaged in discussions around the works during Q&A sessions and are encouraged to read the authors’ works in advance. The authors’ books will be available for purchase in the Museum Shop. Authors will be available for book signings following their readings.
  • Writers Workshops — These sessions nurture the writing talent of our state by introducing attendees to the tools they need to develop their own abilities as writers. Workshops are led by Nebraska-native writers and facilitators. Writers workshops are free, but space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended.
  • Mildred Bennett Award Presentation — The award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the fostering of the literary tradition in Nebraska.
