A Time for Heroes; Hildegard Center for the Arts Calling Visual Media Artists

HerosA Time for Heroes is a project designed to teach what a true hero is and to help identify Heroes in our midst through a variety of events.  One aspect of this project is a visual art and writing competition called Heroes Among Us. Lesson plans will be detsributed to teachers within a 50-mile radius of Lincoln, NE to be used to help students in grades 6 -12 think on this idea and then create their own works to honor these often unsung members of our communities.  As part of the lesson plans, students will be exposed to a selection of art, both visual and written, by professional artists who have created works based on this theme of Heroes.

CALL Winners: Artists selected from this Call will have a curriculum created around their artwork by a professional Teaching Artist from the Lincoln Center Institute in New York.  Atists may also be asked to speak with educators and/or students concerning their creative process.  The artwork will be presented to students in and around Nebraska and be "on loan" for 18 months.   Heroes Among Us is a collaborative project between Hildegard Center for the Arts and Arts Are Basic

Steven DeLair: Variations & Contrasts

Steven DeLair studied fine art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before living and working in Arizona. After nearly 30 years, he returned to Nebraska. His early works, realist large-scale oils, have recently been replaced by a new body of work exploring new methods, materials and style. This conscious break from the past has resulted in richly saturated watercolors and acrylics that balance the line between reality and abstraction. The few canvases in the show reflect the influence of his recent experimentation through more traditional methods. DeLair’s color and style, reminicent of the Bay area painters, adds a unique perspective to the Nebraskan landscape.

DeLair’s work has been included in private and corporate collections internationally and featured in national publications.
